Honda Earns Two J.D. Power 2018 APEAL Awards

First impressions are a big deal and automakers are getting even better at impressing consumers right from the start. This is evident in J.D. Power & Associates 2018 U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout Awards, which measures how appealing new vehicles are to their owners. This year, both the 2018 Honda Accord and Ridgeline earned top marks in their respective segments.*

The APEAL Study surveyed owners and lessees about their new vehicles and asked them to rate 77 attributes, including the feeling of luxury and comfort, fuel economy, driving dynamics, and technology features. The owners responded after 90 days of ownership.

In this year’s study, all categories saw an improvement over the 2017 results. The attributes are then combined into an overall score on a 1,000-point scale.

The Honda Ridgeline is a winner of a 2018 APEAL AwardsIn the Midsize Car category, the Honda Accord earned the most points.* The Ridgeline was named the best in the Midsize Pickup segment for the second year in a row.* Also performing well in the study were the Civic in the Compact Car segment, the CR-V in the Compact SUV category, and the Odyssey in the Minivan segment.*

Overall, the Honda brand received a score of 818 points, which is above the mass market average of 814 points.

Honda Ridgeline Lights Up the Road with Best Pickup Headlights

Best Pickup Headlights | 2017 Honda Ridgeline | Floyd Traylor Honda | Fort Smith, AR Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Testing

Once again, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is testing to ensure our vehicles are as safe as they can be. In the most recent testing, the IIHS checked headlights and a lot of the vehicles aren’t doing so well. This being said the best pickup headlights were found on the all-new 2017 Honda Ridgeline.

The available LED headlights on the Ridgeline RTL-E and Black Edition trims illuminated 358 feet of the road. Whereas the poorest performing pickup the Colorado only illuminated 123 feet in the test.

The IIHS evaluated headlights on 11 pickup models and gave each a score of good, acceptable, marginal, or poor. The Ridgeline was the only pickup to receive a good rating.

One feature that helped the Ridgeline was its high-beam assist feature. This feature automatically turns on the high beams when no other vehicles are present, and turns them off if another vehicle is approaching. It also provides better visibility without having to worry about blinding other drivers.

And, to encourage more automakers to improve their headlights, the IIHS will be using its headlight ratings as one factor in its annual Top Safety Pick+ awards.

Honda Ridgeline Rock Drop

2017 Honda Ridgeline - Fort Smith, AR
The 2017 Ridgeline is built to endure even the most extreme conditions thanks to its toughness.

The internet watched as Chevrolet delivered a major blow to the Ford F-150’s aluminum body – literally. The rock drop scratched and dented the Silverado 1500 and left major punctures in the F-150’s aluminum bed. As it turns out, Honda was also watching closely, and the Japanese automaker took the challenge to prove it was just as tough as American-made trucks.

To do so, Honda performed the same rock drop into a Ridgeline’s standard composite bed. A whopping total of 830 lbs. of concrete blocks fell from a height of about five feet into the bare bed. The end result? A few scratches, no dents, and nothing even remotely close to a puncture. Even better, the black composite hid the scratches so they were barely noticeable.

As an added bonus, the tailgate still worked perfectly and the in-bed trunk was unscathed, neither of which Chevrolet showed in their ad. While both the F-150 and Silverado 1500 have add-on bed liners, the Honda Ridgeline doesn’t seem to need one.

The Ridgeline rock drop proved that Honda’s full-size pickup’s bed is more durable than both the Silverado 1500’s steel and the F-150’s aluminum. All three trucks compete with the Ram 1500 and Nissan Titan.

Now that Honda’s thrown down the goblet, who will pick it up?

Honda Super Bowl Ad Features Choir of Singing Sheep

Honda’s Super Bowl 50 ad stole the show, garnering fans from around the country. This spot featured a herd of sheep turned choir, singing Queen’s iconic “Somebody to Love.” Twitter exploded after the ad aired, with fans claiming there was nothing to top Honda’s singing sheep.

According to Business Insider, the ad was meant to showcase the new in-bed speaker option that lets you listen to your music when you step outside of your truck. The ad featured a farmer hauling sheep to a nearby field, turning on the speakers as he emptied the sheep, and driving away. The sheep can’t get enough of his music, and break out into song.

“It’s a very unique feature. Nobody else has it. And it’s a little tough to communicate—although we will in some advertising later this spring, when the truck’s at the dealers. It’s not actually speakers. It’s ‘exciters’ that makes the whole bed a speaker. It’s pretty cool. … It would make a great tailgate vehicle.”

Created by the ad agency RPA, the Honda Super Bowl ad also highlighted the new Honda Ridgeline truck. While it has a tough exterior and impressive performance, this Honda pickup has all the latest amenities to make driving and working more enjoyable.

The all-new 2017 Honda Ridgeline pickup truck is one of the vehicles we are most highly anticipating at Floyd Traylor Honda, and its arrival is getting nearer every day.

First, though, will come its big reveal. It’s just been announced that the Honda Ridgeline will debut on television on Sunday, February 7, to more than 100 million viewers during the 3rd quarter of Super Bowl 50.

This will be in addition to several promotions across other platforms, like the Internet. It’ll be the first official Honda Super Bowl commercial since “Hugfest” aired in 2014, which focused on Honda safety.

“The big game is the largest and most coveted stage to show the world that Honda is back in a big way with an all-new Ridgeline truck,” said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Automobile Division.

The all-new 2017 Honda Ridgeline will launch at Floyd Traylor Honda in the first half of 2016, joining our new lineup of innovative light trucks. It’s an all-American truck that has been developed in Ohio and California and will be produced in Alabama.
