2017 Honda Odyssey Family Features

Finding the right minivan to meet the needs of the modern family can be fairly difficult, especially since the segment has shrunk so much over the past few decades. Fortunately, the 2017 Honda Odyssey is still going strong and continues to raise the bar for the segment as a whole. We here at Floyd Traylor Honda know of a few family-friendly features that make the Honda Odyssey a great choice.

2017 Honda Odyssey

Space

The 2017 Honda Odyssey features a spacious interior with seating for up to eight passengers. Once seated, passengers will enjoy up to 172.6 cubic feet of space. Comfortable third-row seats make the Honda Odyssey the perfect vehicle for any family road trip.

Entertainment

Nothing says entertainment like three rows of comfortable seating and a wide window to look out of on the road. Some families want more, especially those with children who grow bored of the scenery rather quickly. Fortunately, Honda is prepared for that.

An available Rear Seat Entertainment System with wireless headset capability makes every trip a quiet and enjoyable one. The system includes a DVD player with rear audio display controls so parents can stay in control at all times.

The nine-inch screen features an ultrawide resolution and an HDMI input that’s used for modern video game systems and several other entertainment devices.

Convenience

Cleaning up after a family vacation can be a hassle. Kids somehow manage to get crumbs, dirt, and other debris throughout the vehicle. Getting a vacuum into the Odyssey is easy, but maneuvering properly could be difficult. That’s why Honda thought ahead. The HondaVAC® is a built-in vacuum cleaner that makes cleaning a stress-free chore.

Honda Begins Production of New 10-Speed Transmission

Honda has dedicated itself to innovative technology, design, and performance over the years, and the latest result of that commitment to cutting-edge engineering is a new 10-speed transmission. The brand revealed production of the all-new gearbox is going into effect starting now and will be fitted into the drivetrain of the upcoming 2018 Honda Odyssey. The 2018 Honda Odyssey will arrive at dealerships like ours, Floyd Traylor Honda, sometime this spring.

Honda Odyssey - new 10-speed transmission

The 10-speed transmission will be the first-ever of its kind in front-wheel drive vehicles. The plan is to begin production of the gearbox for the Odyssey, and then gradually expand availability across other nameplates in Honda’s model lineup, as well as vehicles offered from Acura. Investing in production of the new 10-speed will cost Honda $150 million total, including the cost of a new assembly line, new equipment, and boosting production capacity.

The new 10-speed transmission from Honda is one of the first of its kind. However, Ford and General Motors have already developed a 10-speed gearbox of their own together, which is offered as an option on the new F-150 Raptor and Camaro for the 2017 model years; the 10-speed gearbox is set to make an appearance on the 2018 Mustang later this year.

Will a 10-speed transmission become a new staple in the industry? Time will tell.
